Undoubtedly, you will have realized that “results“ is the currency of this business and one of the core differentiating factors is Competence.
I mentioned at the beginning of the month that Competence is an ability that is developed as one progresses through 5LINX and in life. I also stressed the fact that simply having knowledge is useless without application! As we approach the mid-point of October, let me engage you on how you can continue to upgrade your performance by investing in your competency level.
Complacency kills Competence. You must be urgent about your business. Many people give excuses for not meeting their monthly goals, not realizing that the end of every month gives you the opportunity to re-evaluate your standing, your goals, and what you are doing to achieve those goals. Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If you have not achieved your goals so far this month, then you must do something different. You must discover the skill sets, as well as presentation and communication skills you need to effectively engage your target market and make outstanding sales as well as IMR sign-ups.
Being competent will enable you to push beyond your limits. I wish I could tell you that having a positive “I can do it” attitude is enough to sustain you in life; it is not! You need to develop yourself in every possible way and continue to test and evaluate your performance. The better you are at something, the easier it will be for you to get outstanding results. Being capable, proficient or adept in your business, regardless of the challenges, will always set you apart from others. Being competent will distinguish you in 5Linx.
5linx is a business about people, not positions. It is a level playing field that empowers people to live the lives of their dreams without stress and anxiety. Sunny and I have been blessed beyond our wildest dreams by this opportunity. In our recently recorded 5Linx documentary (link), we shared our story of achievement with you. There is no hidden secret for our success in 5LINX. The answer is really simple – we invested in our craft!
We invested time, money and resources in learning more about the business; we found mentors who guided us along the way; we celebrated our successes, enjoyed our fun moments, maximized the training sessions, asked questions and mentored others. If you can commit to doing these things over the next 90days, I promise you that your business will start to grow; and if you continue to do these things over and over again, then your business will soar! You will become a PSVP!
Peak Performers do not rely on luck. They work on their abilities and skills over time. They spend money on personal development; they attend training events; they network with the right people and they never quit when faced with challenges. Don’t become complacent or inactive. Resist the draw of making the minimum your maximum! Push yourself to the limit and to the next level! You will be pushing yourself up the ladder of life!

Happy month of October to you and yours! The last two months have been very exciting for us as we shared insights, concepts, attitudes and ideas that can revolutionize your business if they are incorporated into your daily agenda. So it gives me great joy to share one of our most favorite topics with you again this month. Our theme for October is developing Competence.
Competence goes beyond words. It is the leader’s ability to say it, plan it, and do it in such a way that others know that you know how-and know that they want to follow you. (John C. Maxwell)
So developing competence means acquiring the skills necessary to getting the job done! Competence is often a differentiating factor in any field of endeavor. To attain successful heights in life, you must have a thorough understanding of your capacity and your abilities. A great part of putting commitment to action is investing greatly in your competency level. This simply means investing time and resources into sharpening and fine tuning your skills. Remember that competence does not stop at simply knowing how to; it is “doing” what you know how to.
We all have a great deal of admiration for people who are great at what they do. When you think of people like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Steve Jobs, Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, etc you cannot help but marvel at the level of competency they display in their respective carriers.
But where these people born competent or did they develop it along the way? The truth of the matter is that they developed competence as they progressed. They spent time reading, discovering, learning, asking and implementing their ideas until they became masters of their crafts. Life is an even playing field. It gives access to competent people! Remember that competence is the intrinsic force that enables you to act effectively in any given situation.
Regardless of what your comfort level may be in 5LINX today, the good news is that you can become better at it if you apply yourself. You will go from bad to good to great over time in the business. 5LINX is indeed a learn-as-you-go kind of business! Do not expect to present like a PSVP after 30days in the business! Let your focus be to learn and grow and develop into the leader you are destined to become if you give this your best effort.
To develop competence and reach the top in 5LINX, focus on these things:
1. Know Yourself
Take time to find out what your abilities, capabilities and skills are. What are those things that come easily to you? What are the tools you are good at using? Try new things and discover what your strengths and weaknesses are. This will help you develop a strategy that will produce successful results.
2. Invest in Yourself
Next, it is important to learn as much as you can about entrepreneurship. Being competent requires upgrading your ability. Invest in a laptop, platinum service, a DTA, a videophone, internet access at home and all the services that 5LINX offers that you currently use at home. You cannot effectively market these services without using them yourself! Attend those conferences, seminars, workshops and training events in your city. Read books, listen to audio tapes, talk to your mentors; do everything you can to become the best.
3. Show Up Daily
Nobody can get to the top without active participation. Commit to your weekly business opportunity meeting (BOM). This is where you learn how to present 5LINX intelligently. Your success depends on this! Future PSVPs do not just show up at the BOM, they come with guests, take the front row seats and are ready to learn from the presenter. Make it a habit to stay connected with the presenter at your local BOM. Observe how they dress, walk, speak and what kind of jokes/stories they tell during the briefing. Observe how the audience response to them. Take notes!
4. Apply yourself
Knowledge without application is useless. You will never become a PSVP by virtue of what you know only. You must apply what you know to get to PSVP! Set aside time daily to learn the business. An hour a day will go a long way. Spend this time going through the virtual office documents, 5LINX University and talking to your uplines.
Push yourself to the limit this month! Success requires ordinary people doing the extraordinary!
The ICON Group Tour will be coming to a city near you this month! Come out and learn how to be successful in 5LINX.
May the sky be your beginning!

Welcome to the month of September. I’m always very excited about the beginning of a new month because it presents new opportunities, new beginnings and affords the ability to review the steps being taken towards meeting the year’s goals.
Thank you all for the amazing feedback and responses received from our last eMessage. Our theme for September is COMMITMENT.
Commitment is the ability to apply consistent action toward the achievement of a particular goal. Commitment means staying the course, regardless of the challenges or distractions that may come your way. Commitment is a conscious application of one’s self to the tasks which collectively bring about success.
As we travel around, many people often ask Sunny and I what our secret is. Our response is always very simple: We just don’t quit. There may be many principles, keys, tips, ideas, strategies, concepts and articles on how to be successful in life, but one of the foundational pieces is the art of consistent action. This means that against all odds, you remain steadfast to doing what is required to win.
Consistent action means developing a never-quitting attitude and pushing yourself beyond the limit and the status-quo of people who give up on their dreams just because the road was rocky. Successful people remain committed to doing what they set out to do regardless of the circumstances around them.
It is important to know that commitment is more than an attitude or a mindset, it is a lifestyle. It is the seed that is sown and cultivated over time to produce a desired harvest. Let me conclude by sharing some strategies for mastering the art of commitment:
1. Set reasonable goals.
2. See yourself already in possession of that which you desire. Feel it in your heart!
3. Celebrate little wins, while preparing yourself for tomorrow’s challenges.
4. Find a mentor! You will learn from their mistakes and avoid the same pitfalls.
5. Avoid nay-sayers and negative people who will often try to dissuade you simply because they do not have the guts to do what you do.
6. Avoid being burnt out by living a healthy lifestyle and resting well.
7. When the going gets tough, be tough on the going! Stay put and refuse to give up!
This month, highlight your goals and never look back as you reach for the farthest heights. You have the ability to create your own world so do not give in to fear, doubts or distractions. Rekindle the fire in your heart and step out in faith and the assurance that you cannot and will not fail; and keep doing what you have to do to make it happen!
The doors will soon open up for you!
Stay blessed.

March is gone with the winds!! What an incredible month it was.We grew as a TEAM and also as individuals within the TEAM.We seem to be understanding each other a little bit more as the days slowly turn into weeks and months, then years.I can hardly believe we’ve been doing this for 4 years and seven months! My oh my!! How time flies! I wonder WHERE we will all be 4 yrs from today? I wonder WHAT we will be doing 4 years from today? I wonder WHO will be in our lives 4 years from today….and sometimes I wonder IF we will be around 4 years from today?
I woke up to a strange feeling this morning! We lost a friend last week in Houston….car accident! He died on the spot! He was only 39!Married with 2 kids! He was so full of life and preparing to celebrate his 40th in style! My cousin said he was getting ready to “put Houston on the map”….he left a party at 4:00am,sent his wife a text to say that he was coming home! But God had a radically different plan for him!He was just a few minutes away from the ULTIMATE call! He crashed 5mins from home…and died on the spot….and left a community around the world speechless and in shock, for he was well loved!
As all roads lead to MD this week-end for his funeral, and as I prepare to head to Bowie for a choir rehearsal,I can’t help but to wonder what this thing called life is all about! It’s funny how death gets our attention, and keeps us locked into it’s firm grip……reminding us of the fact that we are NOT in control like we think we are!God is in control!
I know that! I understand that! But WHY do I(we) seem to forget this simple fact so often? Five times before I have been rudely reminded of this fact! But then, time always heals ALL wounds and I soon went back to my ways! But today is different! I woke up this morning thinking about Stella, uncle Charles, daddy Ngonga,ma Vero & Perps! And as these tears roll down, almost blurring my vision, I wonder how this week-end will play out…with Abongwa in a casket! After Stella, I became scared of seeing anyone close to me laying in state!I’d rather stand in the back of the room…it took ALOT of courage to view Perps! and the image is still VIVID in my mind’s eye!!! Today, however,I worry for different reasons…If this week-end was all about me…..WHAT will my EULOGY be about? WHO will bear the burden of delivering that EULOGY? HOW will my loved ones remember me? Will the world take notice of my passing? Will anybody’s life have been impacted because I lived?
As I thought about these things,it suddenly dawned on me that I am NOT in control! I have only been given some time to be here. That time is running out,and I need to die to myself so that my purpose of being here will be made obvious to me.I want to fulfill my purpose so that when I receive the ULTIMATE call, my living will not have been in vain.
How about you? What will you do this month to get closer to your destiny? What have you been putting off for so long that needs attending to RIGHT NOW! WHAT needs to change within you that will UNLOCK your unlimited potential and bring you closer to your purpose?WHAT skill do you need to learn that will make you a better person to those around you?WHO have you been ignoring that holds the KEYs to your future? IF today was your last day on earth,HOW will you be remembered? As someone who only cared about self or as one who impacted the lives around him/her to the BEST of your ability?
May God bless you this month as you ponder upon these things.May His grace shine upon you and your businesses this month.
Blessings,
King.

Hello Team! I hope that all is well with you and your families all over the world.
I can’t believe we are already in the third month of 2010!I am a little anxious cause we only have 9 more to go and I still have a millions things on my to-do list!!!
Our Regional event in Nigeria was absolutely the BEST event we have so far organized. It started out in Abuja with Executive Vice President Jason Guck!!! Abuja came out in style!!! 600 people strong!!!! More than 200 took applications to get started with the opportunity!!I am heading back there on Wednesday for major BOMs through Sunday!
Friday & Saturday events at the national theatre in Lagos were equally packed out! 600 people in attendance on both days! The training sessions were outstanding with President Jeb Tyler, Jason Guck, PSVP Sunny Pinyin & SVP Ian Chebe!! Nigeria is most definately on the map and 5Linx will hear about it for months and months!!
Once again we promoted 4 new National Directors, 10 new Executive Directors & 45 new Executive Trainers!!!! Congratulations to all our newly promoted leaders!!We are truly priviledged to be a part of your lives.
I will be putting up the event venues for our upcoming tour of Port Harcourt, Benin, Warri, Enugu,Onitsha, Abuja & Lagos tomorrow.
We commit to making March another record breaking month for our team as we tour these cities to help grow your businesses. Please make sure that you clear your schedules and be present at these seminars and BOMs accross Nigeria & the U.S.The only way to get to the top in 5Linx is to commit 100% to trainings.Make it a habit to participate in these events!
I want you to look at 5Linx from the perspective of a college degree!! It took you 2 to 4 years of attending lectures, for 5 to 8 hours a day, & 5 days a week!! Did I mention all those midnight hours in preparation for test/quizzes or exams!!! Yet in all, you stayed the course and persevered to the very end, just so that you could hold on to that piece of paper called a certificate!!!!
When times were tough, you did not quit!It did not matter how many times you had to re-take a course! You did not quit! You went back to the drawing board and studied harder! It did not matter if your instructor was a pain in the neck! You still took his course and worked even harder so that you could get a passing grade! You did not quit!! HOPE in the future kept you going.HOPE gave you the strength to keep on keeping on! HOPE kept your FAITH alive!!
My prayer for you this month,is that HOPE keeps you from quitting on your dreams! When you feel like throwing in the towel, may HOPE keep your faith in you alive and remind of the fact that you are fearfully and wonderfully made and hence you can and will overcome all the obstacles that you face.Remember that every obstacle is a stepping stone unto bigger and better things in the future.
May the sky be your beginning in March!
Blessings,
King.

Hello,
I know it’s been a few days…but we arrived Nigeria safely on Thursday at 3pm by God’s grace. We got great help from the tail winds!!! Arrived an hour and thirty minutes early!!I promised taking the captain out for a drink!!! But of course NEPA did it again! and our GEN also decided to welcome us by going off! So we were without electricity until 11:30 pm!! Then we had to unpack and re-pack our bags to head for PH on the first flight out of Lagos! We had 3 BOMs from 10:00am until 7:00pm on Thursday and then a Super Sat. today from 11a.m. Both meetings were PACKED OUT! The CU3000 phone will do very well in Africa! Don’t believe everything that folks tell you about the internet in Nigeria….things are getting better and better by the day! Called Denzel today who is off to VA to visit uncle Jim. He closed out the meetings very well for us! I strongly advise that you let your kids close out meetings for you.It drives the importance of the videophone home to most people!!
